Question period time
I think that maybe the other 6 exec feel left out at this point. No one asked anything of anyone but Dean.
Quote of the meeting
"Can you believe this show is free?"--RPG (in response to the ENTIRE MEETING. All 373 minutes of it. Thus far.)
The peanut gallery UNANIMOUSLY agrees.
Who's bringing the popcorn next month?

but wait!
at the last moment, another item is added to the agenda!
Ted moves to adopt the members of the student spaces ad-hoc committee to the standing committee!
We have a real student spaces committee!

THE TSN TURNING POINT!

Cripes.

Who knew student politics could be this exciting?!

general update
the enthusiasm has definitely gone right out of the room - debate for debate's sake seems to be the theme of the day and it is taking its toll on the board members...
some people seem to just love to hear themselves speak.
Attempt #2!
Amended! taking out the word 'appropriately'. that is all.
Main motion vote time - Food Bank Referendum question!
Result: Passed!!
Do your research U of O! Referenda are coming your way!
Amendment Fail!
the first paragraph will not be scrapped. we are going to have to re-amend the question. here comes another 20 minute Food Bank debate!
who's excited?!?
Food Bank Referendum Question
who wants to pay another .75/.25 per year for the Food Bank to function as a proper service?
the board discusses the question...
is that an appropriate amount? yes? no? more fees for students... why ask for more - could it be less?
Danika: explains all that needs to be paid for/the hardships of running on so little money... etc. needs to grow. pilot project.
Ryan: thinks the question is leading - wants to adjust it.
random debaaaaaate...
amendments to amendments... to amendments.................
wheeeee. circles!
Referenda for 2009
Food bank levy increase from $0.25 to $1.00 per full-time student. Seventy-five cent increase. Verdict is: Kennery is the new torchbearer for fair referendum questions.
Rawb is the torchbearer for fairness between levies for SFUO services with his amendment to the amendment.
Some exec members are visibly disappointed with the proposed amendments.

Tigger sighting!
Mid-recess, Rawb starts humping random people and springing about, earning the distinction of Tigger-est board member ... stir-crazy is the word.
Effing in camera recess.
Ten minutes before they go BACK in camera. awesome.
in the meantime, the hallway crew is in LOLera.
tick-tock
fifty minutes... must be some big HR issues being tackled. Or they are having an ultra-exclusive party.
Rawb confirms session is still in camera. Ten-minute recess. Maybe the party was too intense

Hallway!
So much Subway and Second Cup out here!
hopefully the in camera session won't take too long...
Election dates!!!
Dean fucked up: did not get three notices (as is required) of the election nominations into La Rotonde on time.
Must amend the dates for this reason. Makes for a longer nomination period - apparently a good thing?
Will also do online advertising.
Will all be published by Jan 8th. Nomination period is in effect until Jan. 19th. Bilingualism testing from Jan. 19 - 28th. Platforms due on 29th. Campaigning starts on Feb 1st. Polling is Feb. 11-13th.
motion: passes!
Dean's thoughts on the SAC!
Samantha Green was recommended as the arbitrator for the SAC (not the BOA member). Involved in Senate and has some experience with Law.
Dean, Pam and Federico recommends that she be ratified as an arbitrator under Social Sciences.
vote: passes.
Women's Resource Centre
First reading: WRC is being added to the Constitution under Student Affairs, because it has yet to be. super exciting.
Questions:
Rawb: where do these services fall RIGHT NOW, if not under your portfolio?
unofficially under Danika - delayed because of changes to be made to Bylaw 12.
Rawb: if it is already under your mandate, instead of adding it for a couple of months and then change it later? why can t it go on as it has? redundant change?
did not want to go into the new structure without solidified situation for these services (Federico agrees ... even though he is impartial ... or he has a head-nodding twitch... ?)
Debate: none
vote: passes! wheeeee! placards unite!
Official Thumbs Up Policy
Rawb suggests that instead of being added to the speakers' list, the members of the board use a 'resounding thumbs up' to show support for their peers.
Robert's rules-ing: sure. kind of.
still on Employment Equity
The board has split the motion re Employment Equity. Kennery wants to table the second part (3.4.1.13.2) of it, so that it is considered as a priority in its own right. The table is split on this issue so far...
going to a vote!
only 2 for tabling it - almost everyone else says NO!
I guess we re looking at it now!
Inconsistencies...
This has come up a few times already.
There are inconsistencies between the French and English versions of the agenda. Minutes from past meetings have not been translated yet, and are therefore not available to students.
Issue?

Issue?
Green ACRES
(Aboriginal Counseling Resource Elder Service)
Presentation to the Board by the President of the Aboriginal Law Students' Association.
Debate includes:
Concerns centring on whose responsibility is counseling, SASS' or Peer Help's
Seamus compares WRC operating budget to ACRES' proposed levy. Apparently also not fair to lump this service into another service's mandate. Fairness? Proof? Batman?
Debate continues after failed attempt to call the question.
After all that...
Question will be on the ballot.

Gender/Minority Issues with Employment Equity
Question from Rob: can we ask applicants to self-identify themselves, gender-wise, for our records? Could help clarify barriers, but is it legal to ask?
Amy: Should be fine if it is not a part of the actual hiring process.
Sam: Cannot identify/declare a minority for someone - that person has to declare it him/herself.
EXCITEMENT!
the windows! they have been knocked upon! what is a senate room meeting with knocking on the windows?!?
like a day without sunshine.
Tabaret a besoin d'une meilleure connection Internet. C'est frustrant.

thrill ride
the motion that wouldn t die is now ruled out of order. we get to start over. wonderful.
but FIRST, the post-recess roll call.
something is out of order that used to be in order...
new info changes everything! the black ops team has delivered key intelligence...
oh, and YES, we are STILL discussing the boa vs SFUO Council motion. wtf. waaaaaaaaasting time. it s not like we all have exams next week...
actual vote yet? nope.
seamus thinks the board needs to be in order. which is technically out of order to say. but, whatever. he makes his own rules - lone Wolfe, that one. SOLIDARITY!
oh, and Faris just flipped a coin. assumedly to determine his vote... seems as good as any other way so far.
point of privilege..
one of the board members was uncomfortable with the proximity of his fellows... conga line of shimmying desk chairs ensues.
still talking about lawyer amendment.........
finally, the question is called for realz. we are going to a vote on the amendment, ladies and gentlemen... it carries! wow, we re actually back to the original motion.
wasting time..
Iain s idea of not wasting time is to cause an extra vote and a 30 second recess. ridiculous. who s afraid of michele lamarche? apparently, mr brannigan...
Motion by Ms. Book part 1
be it resolved that the Sfuo lawyer... offer advice on the CFS referendum... in January.
-to ensure the integrity of the referendum
-get further advice and answer questions about the prospective membership issue
on to the queue and eh!
Seamus: if there are questions, shouldn't we voice them at BOA instead of [wasting] money on the lawyer?
Ted: what is the cost of having the lawyer in? (above $100/hr)
the audience gets a voice
if you are a CFS-O member, you are a member of CFS proper, if I have a question about the CFS-O, how do I know what the constitution is when it is not available online. Same goes for the minutes that were quoted, when we weren't at those meetings.
-Minutes are available in the SFUO office. Come see them during office hours. Point final.
Kennery would appreciate the ability to seek legal opinion to get closure.
Speaking rights to be given to member of the audience again. One member is against this. DRAMA!!!

a gravely important issue: calling the board the SFUO Council instead of the BOA
changing the name is NOT a waste of time! we swear! you should all REALLY CARE!
BONG! gong show!
Faris DIVES under the table!!! MOST EXCITING thing to happen so far! fire alarm? computer asplode? craziest text ring tone ever?
perhaps we'll never know....
President
Dean: SFUO and CFS are officially married. ROC will publish a report on the referendum within the month. Reports that the referendum was legit. to be in CFS ontario, you must be part of CFS national, so it s all good - not sure everyone agrees, but that s the word so far. some parts of the table look less comfortable than others.......... should be a fun agenda point later
Student Centre - hopefully within 5 years. rooftop garden?!?
U-Pass - Dec 3rd, will try again. Dec 10th @ 10 am - want students to attend.
PRT - wants to visit Faculty exec meetings next semester
Allan Rock deferred the letter re Marc Kelly, etc to his lawyer. Students do not have nomination rights - uni only considers them to be suggestions.
VP Social
The neutral one: had some fun events. will have some more fun events. lots of winter sports fun. Relay for life is coming up. Black History Month. some more social stuff.
VP Seamus
Seamus: he wants his campaigns to be well-attended. failed to keep tuition from rising at the BOG.
CFS AGM: a) come get the minutes! in his office! if you dare....! b) our input was NOTED! wow, they knew we were THERE. what a sweet victory. c) arts cuts are bad. really bad. d) solidarity drinking game begins. e) will spend the weekend with CFS Ontario - ooh la la.
VP Student Affairs
Danika: listed a bunch of costs for events. not interesting. .........................
VP Comm
Julie: Nov 5th - the Drop Fees campaign picked up momentum.
sort of a ridiculous statement - it was the Day of Action, but still technically an update.
1:27
Roxanne: Café Alt financial analysis to lower prices. "Food might be a bit expensive". Hopefully second semester will show a more accessible café for cash-strapped students.
more fun with the agenda!
Cameron comes in with a proposal to have the SAC review all future referenda rules! especially for those regarding anything outside of the corporation.
1:14
Frederico wants this to be a short meeting. Let's hope.
In other news there is a new secretary. Where is François?
